Colour lithograph of 'Exeter Diocesan School For the Training of National Schoolmasters'

Description

This hand-coloured lithograph was printed by William Spreat in c 1854 and shows the Exeter Diocesan School, which was renamed St Luke's College in 1930. Having started life as a as a teacher training college in the Cathedral Close, the training school was opened at its new premises on Heavitree Road on 18 October 1854. The buildings were designed in the Gothic style by John Hayward. The Chapel was not completed until 1863.
