Plan of the City & Suburbs of Exeter (1792)

This digital exhibition is based on the outreach project Mapping our Exeter, organised by the University of Exeter Special Collections. The project originated from a single event for the Being Human Festival in November 2022 and is currently ongoing. Using historic maps from the collections to reflect on the development of the city from 1587 to the present day, this project seeks to discover the places in Exeter that have personal significance to people today.

The main output of the project is the creation of the Click into Place map, a new digital map that charts the places in Exeter that have personal meaning to the people who live in, work in or visit the city. Over the course of several events and group sessions in the local community, people were invited to drop a pin on a digital map of Exeter and add a place that is special to them.
